Southwest Minnesota Amateur Sports facility Press Conference
  • 6:00pm CST - 7:30pm CST January 19th, 2012
  • There will be a Southwest Minnesota Amateur Sports facility press conference held on January 19th, 2012 at the SMSU Regional Events Center at 6:00 PM. This is a great opportunity to not only show your support but to get up to date information on the facility. There will be a number of speakers both local and state. Local speakers include Co-Chair of SMASC Roger Madison and City Administrator Ben Martig who will give a background on the project and a welcome from the Marshall Area Chamber Executive Director Cal Brink. There will also be a bonding status update with Paul Erickson, Executive Director of the Minnesota Amateur Sports Commission and Duane Arens, MASC Board Chair. Senator Gary Dahms and Representative Chris Sedzinski will also be in attendance at the press conference. The evening will conclude with Greta Murray, Southwest Minnesota Arts and Humanities Council Director and Becky Wyffels, MAFAC unveiling of a Terry Fogarty mural print. SMASC has received approval from the Minnesota State Legislature to allow a local vote for a local option sales tax of one-half cent that will take place in November 2012. At that time, there will also be a vote on a 1.50% increase in the local hospitality tax that will primarily be used to generate operating dollars. This is in conjunction with the MERIT Center project and the proceeds would benefit both projects. We encourage all to attend this press conference to learn more about SMASC so we can educate the public of the importance of this facility for MAHA and the region as a whole. This should be a very informational press conference and a chance to ask some questions and have a clear vision of the future of the Southwest Minnesota Amateur Sports Facility. Once again the press conference will be held at the SMSU Regional Events Center at 6:00 PM on Thursday, January 19th. Let's have a strong showing and as always...thanks for supporting MAHA!
